Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor has certified a new statewide initiative that could appear on a future ballot.
Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom approved the application for Ballot Initiative 25USCV after a review by the Division of Elections and the Department of Law. The measure, formally titled “An Act requiring that only United States citizens may be qualified to vote in Alaska elections,” now moves to the signature-gathering stage.
The initiative aims to amend state election law to explicitly state that only U.S. citizens who are at least 18, have been Alaska residents for at least 30 days, and are properly registered may vote.
